A theme that we have here on Walsh Wednesday is that music is transcending. It transcends beyond geography, location, and language because it captures the human spirit unlike anything else. Music, in itself, is a like a spirit that runs through all of us, and ties humanity together. It helps share stories, teach history, unite cultures, and create new opportunities. For these reasons, music transcends time.
Thank you for tuning into Walsh Wednesday: The Reflective Series. Today’s guest is my cousin, Maria Caswell. Resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Maria studied violin at the New England Conservatory, and is a professional violist and violinist. She performs with ensembles including the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and Voices of Music, two of the United States’s premiere Early Music ensembles. In today’s episode, I sit down with Maria to talk about the beauty of Early Music, hardships faced by orchestras during the pandemic, and how unions and law are involved with regulating virtual performances and revenue.
